The Pulse

The Pulse is a publication of the Roosevelt Institution of the College Democrats created in Fall 2007 by Adrian Haimovich as a means of extending the policy work of the institution to a larger audience. While it primarily targets alumni and other people active in the policy world, The Pulse also serves as a policy guide for progressive activists at Columbia and on other campuses.

The name of The Pulse is based on a phrase coined in Spring 2007 by Jonathan Backer to describe his vision for the College Democrats. The phrase first appeared during the run-up to the Spring 2007 Executive Board elections and was eventually used in an op-ed of Backer's and colloquially as a phrase recognized by many in the organization as an appropriate summation of mission.
