Like all media outlets, Columbia's newspaper of record, the Columbia Spectator, can be both a friend and a foe to the Dems. Any important event or happening should be accompanied by a professional press release to the Spec and a personal contact by the Media Director. The Spec has many reporters who vary in ability quite widely. A bad reporter makes for bad coverage, even if the reporter is friendly and does not intend to make the Dems look bad. Personal calls to reporters known to be competent is never a bad idea, even if they are not assigned to the story already.
